Certified Green
Be the change that you want to see in the world – Gadhi
In April 2008, Goodman Building Supply became the first “Green” hardware store in Marin County. With that distinction, we continue to seek more ways to be the Green Living resource for Marin County.
What exactly is a Green Business? The movement launched in Marin County in 2002. It is so impactful that other Bay Area counties have joined. The program is designed to help businesses become more energy, resource and water efficient in order to prevent pollution. When businesses meet that checklist, they become verified by the county and we are exceedingly proud to be on their list.
The program was meant to help businesses that are not traditionally green and help them take steps to reduce energy and pollution along with using fewer toxic products, something Goodman Building Supply takes very seriously.
The Green Business Program is a voluntary partnership among business leaders, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. So what does it take to be recognized and promoted as a green business?
Demonstrate continuous compliance with applicable environmental regulations;
Conserve energy, water, and other materials;
Implement sound environmental practices that prevent pollution and waste generation, and;
Share environmentally responsible practices with other businesses in our community.
The Marin County Green Business Program is part of the California Green Business Network developed by Bay Area public agencies in collaboration with US EPA, Cal EPA Department of Toxic Substances Control and the business community, the Program is currently offered in many jurisdictions across the State including all nine Bay Area counties.
We are very proud to have the green business distinction because we have our heart and soul into educating our community in how to live a greener life and continue to be a resource for that transformation. In addition, the Marin Municipal Water District has acknowledged us for our wide selection of water-saving products.
With now over 7,000 green products carried throughout our store and growing each year, our mission is clear… to educate and be a leading resource for our community in living a “greener” lifestyle for a better tomorrow.
